18 Committee Seats Open to Apply
The U.S. Coast Guard is resoliciting applications for all eighteen (18) vacancies on the National Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Advisory Committee; complete applications must arrive by January 5, 2026. The committee includes ten seats representing the commercial fishing industry and other seats for naval architects, equipment manufacturers, trainers, underwriters, vessel owners, and three general-public positions.
Service Is Unpaid; Travel May Be Reimbursed
Members will serve at their own expense and receive no salary or other compensation from the Federal Government, but members may be reimbursed for travel and per diem in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations. If you apply and are appointed, you should plan for unpaid service with potential travel cost reimbursements.
Special Government Employee Filing Requirement
Applicants selected for the three general-public positions will serve as Special Government Employees and must complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) for new entrants online and receive ethics training. The disclosure is kept confidential except as allowed by law.
Registered Lobbyists Are Ineligible
Registered lobbyists are not eligible to serve on this Federal Advisory Committee in an individual capacity, per federal guidance on appointments to advisory committees. If you are a registered lobbyist you cannot be appointed to the Committee.
Term, Meetings, and Background Checks
If appointed, your membership term will expire on December 31 of the third full year after your appointment's effective date; the Committee is required to meet at least twice a year (and may meet more often) with meetings generally held near commercial fishing communities. The Secretary may require a security background check before appointment.
