FERC Accepts Ashuelot River Hydro Application and Invites Public Protests

Published Date: 11/24/2025

Notice

Summary

Ashuelot River Hydro, Inc. wants to renew its license to keep running the Minnewawa Hydroelectric Project in New Hampshire. People who care about the project have until December 15, 2025, to speak up or join the conversation. This is a chance to help shape how clean energy flows in the community without any surprise costs right now.

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

You can formally intervene by Dec 15, 2025

Anyone may file a protest or a motion to intervene in the Minnewawa Hydroelectric Project proceeding, but motions to intervene and protests must be received by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on December 15, 2025. Only parties that file a motion to intervene may become a party to the proceeding.

Project to run in run-of-river with 4 cfs minimum

Under the subsequent license, Ashuelot Hydro proposes to continue operating the Minnewawa Project in instantaneous run-of-river mode and to release a minimum flow of 4 cubic feet per second into the bypassed reach, measured immediately downstream from the Minnewawa Dam. This operational mode and minimum flow requirement will govern how water is passed through the project if relicensed.

Proposal to add a 75-kW turbine unit

Ashuelot Hydro proposes to install a new 75-kilowatt fixed-geometry turbine-generator unit in the existing powerhouse in addition to the existing 1,000-kW unit; the project averaged 3,945 megawatt-hours per year from 2003 through 2023. If licensed as proposed, the project’s equipment and generation profile would change accordingly.
