One-time 15-day safety-check extension
Vistra Operations Company asked to extend the completion time (CT) to 15 days for Technical Specification 3.8.1, Action A.3 one time during Cycle 24 at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. The request (submitted October 22, 2025) would allow a 15-day CT to support a scheduled 13-day maintenance period on startup transformer X02.
NRC finds no significant hazards risk
The NRC proposes to determine the amendment involves no significant hazards consideration under 10 CFR 50.92 because Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) results show the incremental core damage and large early release probabilities remain below the acceptance criterion in Regulatory Guide 1.177. The licensee's PRA also indicates a CT of 18 days would meet that criterion while the licensee requested 15 days for the 13-day maintenance.
Public comment and hearing deadlines
You can submit comments on this proposed amendment by December 24, 2025, and you can request a hearing or petition to intervene by January 23, 2026. The NRC may issue the amendment before the normal 60-day notice period or before the 30-day comment period ends if it concludes there is no significant hazards consideration or if delay would cause derating or shutdown.
