Disaster food aid needs Presidential declaration
You can receive Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) food aid only if your area has received a Presidential declaration of a "Major Disaster" with Individual Assistance and your State requests to operate D-SNAP. D-SNAP is separate from regular SNAP, runs only for a specific period of time, and is used when commercial food distribution was disrupted and then restored.
