DOE to Form Public‑Private AI Consortium

The Department of Energy says it intends to establish a public-private consortium to curate DOE scientific data across the National Laboratory complex and to develop self-improving AI models for science and engineering under Section 50404 of Public Law 119-21. The models are to be provided to the scientific community through U.S. government, academic, and private-sector programs and infrastructure using cloud technologies. DOE invited ideas from industry, think tanks, investors, research organizations, and other stakeholders and asked for responses by January 14, 2026.
