Who Can Take the SVSES Survey

Any Service member (Active or Reserve component) who has experienced sexual assault since joining the military is eligible to participate in the Sexual Violence Support and Experience Study (SVSES), OMB Control Number 0704-0647. The study collects input from these military members to inform improvements to sexual assault response and accountability systems.

Time Burden to Participate

If you participate in the SVSES, the survey is administered quarterly with 4 responses per respondent and an average burden of 15 minutes per response, which equals about 1 hour of survey time per respondent per year. The DoD estimates 300 respondents, 1,200 annual responses, and 300 annual burden hours.

How DoD Will Use and Report Results

The DoD will administer the SVSES online using proprietary software with smart-skip technology and will use the data for program evaluation and to improve personnel policies, programs, practices, and training related to sexual assault. The Office of People Analytics will provide interim findings annually and a full report biennially; the study will not produce generalizable statistics but will inform DoD policy offices.
