FAFSA and Document Deadlines

If you are applying for federal student aid, you must submit your FAFSA to the Department's FAFSA Processing System by June 30, 2026. Corrections and change requests must be submitted by September 12, 2026, and your school must receive your ISIR or FAFSA Submission Summary by your last date of enrollment or September 19, 2026, whichever is earlier. If selected for verification, verification documents must be received by your school no later than 120 days after your last date of enrollment or September 19, 2026; students in Verification Tracking Groups V4 or V5 must provide identity verification results within 60 days of the school's first request or by October 28, 2025, whichever is later.

School Disbursement Submission Deadlines and Penalties

Colleges and other institutions must submit Pell Grant, Direct Loan, and TEACH Grant disbursement records to the Department's COD system no later than November 30, 2026 or 15 calendar days after making or adjusting a disbursement, whichever is later. For Direct Loans the final deadline to submit disbursement information is July 30, 2027. If an institution fails to meet these deadlines, the Department may reject reported disbursements, open audits or program reviews, or take adverse actions such as fines or other penalties.

Frequent Enrollment Reporting Requirement

Institutions must report student enrollment to the National Student Loan Data System at least every two months, per the NSLDS Enrollment Reporting Guide. This updates your enrollment and loan status more often, which can affect timing of loan repayments, loan status, and eligibility checks.
