Task Forces to Police Food Price-Fixing

The Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission must each create a Food Supply Chain Security Task Force to investigate anti-competitive behavior in U.S. food supply chains, including whether foreign-controlled companies are raising food prices or threatening national security. The Task Forces may bring enforcement actions and propose new regulations, and they must brief congressional leaders once within 180 days and again within 365 days after December 6, 2025.

Greater Enforcement Risk for Food Firms

Food-related companies, including foreign-controlled firms, face increased civil enforcement and possible criminal prosecution if investigations find collusion or price fixing; the order notes some companies have settled civil suits for tens of millions of dollars. The Department of Justice Task Force may commence grand jury investigations and criminal proceedings where appropriate.
