New maintenance rules and APU test
If you operate a Bombardier CL-600 series airplane, you must revise your maintenance or inspection program within 90 days after January 16, 2026 to add new, more restrictive airworthiness limitation tasks, including the functional test of the APU muffler drain (Task 49-15-01-101). The initial compliance times are those specified in the applicable tasks or within 90 days after January 16, 2026, whichever is later.
Estimated compliance scale and cost
The FAA estimates the AD affects 550 U.S.-registered airplanes and that revising maintenance/inspection programs takes about 90 work-hours per operator. The FAA estimates an average total cost per operator of $7,650 (90 work-hours × $85 per hour).
No substitute inspections without approval
After you revise your maintenance or inspection program as required, you may not use any alternative actions or intervals (for example, different inspections) unless an Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC) is approved by the FAA Manager, International Validation Branch. Requests for AMOCs must follow 14 CFR 39.19 procedures.
