Summary

The VA is rolling out a new application for the VET TEC 2.0 program, which helps veterans get training in high-tech jobs. They’re asking for public feedback on the application process by February 17, 2026, to make sure it’s easy and useful. This update could speed up how veterans access tech education and boost their career opportunities without extra costs.

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.

New VET TEC 2.0 Application Form

The VA is introducing VA Form 22-10297 so eligible veterans can apply to the High-Technology Veterans Education, Training and Skills (VET TEC 2.0) Program. The form lets applicants choose a specific training provider and program and is required so VA can process enrollments.

Who Qualifies to Apply

To be eligible, an individual must be a veteran under age 62 who served at least 3 years (36 months) on active duty, or a service member within 180 days of discharge who will have served 3 years (36 months) by discharge, and must have a discharge under conditions other than dishonorable.

Time-Limited Funding Window

The DOLE Act authorizes VA to provide educational assistance for VET TEC 2.0 programs that begin prior to September 30, 2027. That means assistance applies only to programs with start dates before 2027-09-30.

Annual Participation Limits and Real-Time Tracking

VA must build enrollment processing and real-time tracking tools because VET TEC 2.0 will have annual participation limits. That means applications may be subject to caps and real-time counting of enrollees.

Time and Respondent Burden to Apply

The VA estimates the new form will be completed once by about 4,000 respondents, with an average of 10 minutes per respondent and a total estimated annual burden of 667 hours.
