The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign identified human remains of at least one Native American individual that it links to the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. Repatriation may occur on or after January 20, 2026, and written requests must be sent to Krystiana Krupa, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 601 E. John Street, Champaign, IL 61820, or emailed to [email protected]. The Peoria Tribe, other Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations identified in the notice, or any lineal descendant or tribe showing by a preponderance of the evidence a cultural affiliation may request repatriation.
