Neurogenic Bladder Reporting Required Jan 2026

If your facility reports urinary tract infection events to NHSN, the new "Neurogenic Bladder" variable (using specific ICD-10-CM codes) becomes required starting January 2026. NHSN's definition of spinal cord injury-associated neurogenic bladder will also expand in January 2026 to include both traumatic and non‑traumatic spinal cord injuries.

Reopened Comment Period — Deadline Feb 2, 2026

CDC reopened the public comment period for this request for information; comments must be received by February 2, 2026. If you work with SCI-NB patients or perform NHSN UTI surveillance, you can submit feedback via Regulations.gov or by mail to help shape future reporting decisions.

CDC Requests Input on 4.5‑Month Reporting Timeline

CDC is asking whether facilities can report necessary procedure code data within 4.5 months after the end of the quarter in which the procedure occurred, and if not, what shorter timeframe they could meet. This request seeks information on feasibility and potential unintended consequences.
