You can be nominated to serve on the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park Advisory Commission; written nominations must be received by January 28, 2026. There is no cost to apply and nominations should be sent to the Site Manager (mail or email provided in the notice).
Service Is Unpaid; Travel May Be Reimbursed
Members serve on the Commission without compensation, but while away from home or regular place of business on approved Commission business they may be allowed travel expenses and per diem under 5 U.S.C. 5703. This reimbursement applies only for approved travel and does not constitute a salary.
Term Lengths and Reappointment Limits
Each member is appointed for a three-year term and may be reappointed for not more than two successive terms; a member may continue to serve after a term ends until a successor is appointed. The Chair is elected by members for a one-year term, renewable once.
Seats Sought For Specific Local Groups
The Commission consists of 15 members appointed by the Secretary, and NPS is currently seeking primary and alternate members to represent Belle Grove, Inc.; the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation; the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation; the National Trust for Historic Preservation; the Towns of Strasburg and Middletown; Shenandoah, Frederick, and Warren Counties; and private landowners within the Park. Ex‑officio seats include the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service.
