LGAC Charter Renewed for Two Years

Call for SCAS Nominations — Jan 15, 2026
EPA is requesting nominations for the Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee (SCAS); nominations to be considered for 2026 appointments must be submitted by January 15, 2026 via the specified email address. This gives eligible local officials a chance to apply for appointment to the Subcommittee.
Who Can Serve on the SCAS
To be eligible for the SCAS, nominees must be current elected officials representing local, state, tribal, or territorial governments, or hold a full‑time government position appointed directly by an elected official. Preference is given to candidates with experience developing and implementing environmental programs consistent with the Powering the Great American Comeback Initiative's Five Pillars (Clean Air, Land, and Water; Restore American Energy Dominance; Permitting Reform and Cooperative Federalism; Make the U.S. the AI Capital; Protecting and Bringing Back Auto Jobs).
No Pay but Travel Reimbursement
EPA will not provide monetary compensation for SCAS service, but official Committee travel and related expenses (lodging, etc.) will be fully reimbursed. Members should expect no service pay but will have out-of-pocket official travel covered when approved.
Appointment Length and Time Commitment
New SCAS members are appointed for a minimum 1‑year term and may be reappointed to serve up to 6 years. In 2026 the Subcommittee plans to hold three to four public meetings (virtual or in-person with online options), and applicants should plan to spend an average of three two hours per month on Subcommittee work.
