Palo Duro Pipeline Sells Southern Stretch Mid-Project

Published Date: 1/13/2026

Notice

Summary

Palo Duro Transmission is changing its natural gas pipeline plan by selling the southern part of its pipeline to a partner, keeping only the northern 61 miles for its project. This means the pipeline will be shorter and rates will go down, but the rest of the project stays the same. If you want to get involved or speak up, there’s a deadline to do so soon!

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Project shortened to 61 northern miles

Palo Duro will now certify only the northern 61 miles of the PD Pipeline, extending through Childress, Collingsworth, and Wheeler Counties. The southern-most portion is being sold to an affiliate that will operate it as a gathering system until new demand is added.

Corresponding reduction in pipeline rates

The amendment says the reduced length of the PD Pipeline will result in a corresponding reduction in rates. The notice does not provide a dollar amount but explicitly ties the shorter pipeline to lower rates.

Intervene by January 28, 2026 deadline

If you want to be a formal party in the FERC proceeding, you must file a motion to intervene by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on January 28, 2026. Filing comments or intervening is free, and intervenors have the right to request rehearing and later challenge Commission orders in the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal.

90-day environmental review scheduling rule

Within 90 days of this notice, Commission staff will either complete the environmental review and place it in the public record or issue a Notice of Schedule for Environmental Review. If a schedule is issued, it will give the anticipated date for the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) or environmental assessment (EA) and federal and state agencies will need to complete required federal authorizations within 90 days of the FEIS or EA issuance.
