Faster poison‑center data sharing for emergencies
CDC seeks a three‑year Paperwork Reduction Act revision to enable a network of 53 poison centers to obtain critical exposure and health information during domestic public health emergencies that meet specified criteria. Data collection for a selected incident must be completed in 60 days or less and is intended to improve response, communication, and prevention.
Poison center callers may get 10‑minute follow-ups
If you call a poison center about an exposure during a public health emergency, CDC‑supported poison centers may follow up with a 10‑minute telephone or web survey. CDC estimates 1,200 adult, 150 adolescent, and 150 parent/guardian responses annually (10 minutes each) for a total of about 250 annual burden hours; there is no cost other than your time and consent is obtained by trained staff.
Parents may answer on behalf of children
If your child under 15 is the subject of a poison center call during a qualifying public health emergency, a parent or guardian may be contacted to complete a 10‑minute call‑back questionnaire. CDC estimates 150 such parent/guardian responses per year, with no cost other than time.
