Notice

Summary

The Department of the Navy is asking for approval to collect info from 5,000 military families to help kids smoothly move and connect with support programs when their parents get new duty stations. This new process includes forms for youth to join a peer leadership program and ensures no interruptions in childcare or school help. Comments on this plan are open until February 27, 2026, and it will take about 30 minutes per form to complete.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Keeps childcare and school support during moves

If you are a military family moving between duty stations, the USMC will collect information from up to 3,500 families using NAVMC 1750/16 to make a “warm handoff” so childcare, School Liaison Program (SLP) services, and youth support are ready at your new installation on arrival. The form is voluntary, takes about 30 minutes to complete, and is used to connect Child and Youth Programs (CYP) and SLP staff to avoid interruptions in care and educational support.

Completing forms requires your time

If you complete NAVMC 1750/16 or NAVMC 1750/17, each response takes about 30 minutes. The DoD expects 5,000 annual responses totaling 2,500 annual burden hours for the collection; comments on the proposal are due February 27, 2026.

Youth can apply to be peer leaders

Youth (with parental consent and assistance) can complete NAVMC 1750/17 to apply for the Youth Connection (YC) peer leader program; the Navy expects about 1,500 applications and each application takes about 30 minutes. Program staff will use the information to review qualifications and select youth for the YC program that supports military-connected children.
