Foreign-built vessel may hurt U.S. shipbuilders

If you are a U.S. vessel builder or run a U.S. coastwise trade business that uses U.S.-built boats, MARAD is asking for comments by March 2, 2026 on whether allowing the foreign-built small passenger vessel M/V FLIPSIDE (a vessel that would carry no more than 12 passengers for hire) to operate in U.S. coastwise trade would have an undue adverse effect on your business. MARAD will use submitted evidence to decide whether the proposed use would harm U.S. vessel builders or coastwise trade businesses that employ U.S.-built vessels.
