Published Date: 2/6/2026
Notice
Summary
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said no to CloudTrucks, LLC’s request to skip collecting important job history and safety info from new drivers. This means all trucking companies still have to gather these details to keep roads safe. The decision kicks in on February 6, 2026, with no changes to costs or rules for drivers or companies.
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
CloudTrucks Denied Because of High-Risk Safety Record
FMCSA denied CloudTrucks' exemption request because the company met the Agency's "High Risk" definition as recently as March 2025 and was cited for 27 driver fitness violations in the past two years, 20 of which were out-of-service. The denial took effect February 6, 2026.
No Exemption — Employment History Still Required
If you apply to drive a commercial motor vehicle, you must still provide employers' names and addresses, dates of employment, reason for leaving, and whether you were subject to FMCSRs and alcohol/drug testing for the past 3 years. If the job requires a commercial driver's license, you must provide employment history for the past 10 years. FMCSA's denial of CloudTrucks' request is effective February 6, 2026, so these collection requirements remain in place.
