CMS–SSA Data Match Decides Coverage
If you apply for or are enrolled in health coverage through an Exchange or in an Insurance Affordability Program, SSA will provide CMS information to decide if you can enroll in a Qualified Health Plan, get subsidies, receive Medicaid, CHIP, or Basic Health Program coverage, obtain a certificate of exemption from the shared responsibility payment, or have eligibility redetermined or renewed. The matching program begins around March 9, 2026, runs for 18 months to September 8, 2027, and may be renewed for one additional year within three months of expiration.
SSA Shares SSNs, Income, Citizenship Data
When CMS requests matches, SSA will receive a submission file containing last name, first name, date of birth, Social Security Number (SSN), and a citizenship indicator. SSA may return matched data including name and DOB, death and disability indicators, incarceration information, Title II annual and monthly income information, confirmation of citizenship and SSN attestations, and Quarters of Coverage.
