19‑mile gas pipeline and compressor in Kansas

Southern Star filed for the Viola Project to build about 19.33 miles of new 16‑inch natural gas pipeline (Line UA), a new Wellington compressor station, and a meter/flow control station in Sumner County, Kansas. The company would use 73,500 Dth/d of existing capacity and create 42,796 Dth/d of new capacity to support a planned 710‑megawatt Viola power plant, at an estimated cost of about $117.8 million; the company also proposes recourse rates for the project, which could affect local energy rates.

Comment, protest, or intervene by Feb 25, 2026

Any person may file comments, a protest, or a motion to intervene in Docket CP26-74-000, and there is no fee to file. The deadline to file a motion to intervene or comments is 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on February 25, 2026; only intervenors have the right to request rehearing of Commission orders and to later challenge orders in the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Environmental review timeline and notification

Within 90 days of this Notice, Commission staff will either complete its environmental review and place it in the public record for this proceeding or issue a Notice of Schedule for Environmental Review. If a Notice of Schedule is issued it will identify milestones including the anticipated date for the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) or environmental assessment (EA), and federal and state agencies will be notified of the timing to complete required federal authorizations within 90 days after issuance of the FEIS or EA.
