4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.
Unpaid 3‑Year Volunteer Appointment
If you are chosen for the National Environmental Education Advisory Council, you serve a three-year volunteer term and do not receive a salary. Members are expected to spend about 20 to 50 hours per month, and EPA will provide per diem and travel expense coverage for in-person meetings when funding is available.
Seats Reserved for Specific Sectors
The NEEAC has eleven (11) members and the law requires specific representation: two from primary/secondary education (one must be a classroom teacher), two from colleges/universities, two from business/industry, two from non-profit organizations, two from state departments of education and natural resources, and one member to represent senior Americans. This structure creates designated opportunities for people in those sectors to be appointed.
Nomination Deadline and Application Materials
To be considered you must submit your nomination electronically by March 16, 2026, including contact information, a curriculum vitae or resume no longer than five pages, the sector you represent in the email subject line, and a one-page essay on your philosophy about environmental education and conservation. Nominations can be self-nominations and must be sent to the EPA email address provided.
Financial Disclosure Requirement for Selectees
If you are invited to serve, you must complete the Confidential Financial Disclosure Form for Special Government Employees (EPA Form 3110-48) so EPA can check for statutory conflicts of interest. The form is requested after invitation and should not be submitted with the initial nomination.
