Summary
The U.S. government decided to keep special taxes on steel wire rod from Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, and Trinidad and Tobago. These taxes help protect American steel makers from unfair competition. This means prices and rules won’t change soon, keeping U.S. steel jobs safer and markets fair.

Duties remain on wire rod imports
On February 19, 2026, the U.S. International Trade Commission determined that revoking the countervailing duty order on carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod from Brazil and the antidumping duty orders on wire rod from Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, and Trinidad and Tobago would likely cause material injury to a U.S. industry. The Commission therefore supports keeping the existing duties (special taxes) in place to protect American steel makers and to help keep U.S. steel jobs safer and markets fair.
