Six Drivers Allowed to Keep Driving
FMCSA renewed exemptions for six named drivers so they may operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce while taking anti-seizure medication. The exemptions are effective August 13, 2025 and expire August 13, 2027; during the exemption period no State may enforce a conflicting law against a person operating under the exemption.
Exemption Compliance and Reporting Rules
Each exempt driver must remain seizure-free, maintain stable treatment, and report a seizure to FMCSA within 24 hours. They must submit annual treating-physician reports and an annual medical exam, provide or keep medical certification in their driver qualification file, report crashes within 7 days, report citations/convictions within 7 days, submit annual certified driving records, carry a copy of the exemption while driving, and meet all CDL testing requirements; failure to comply can lead to rescission of the 2-year exemption.
