Beta avocados may ship two weeks earlier
Starting April 8, 2026, the maturity schedule for the Beta avocado variety is changed so certain sizes and weights can be shipped up to two weeks earlier. The A date moves from August 8 to July 25, B from August 15 to August 1, C from August 29 to August 15, and D from September 5 to August 22; the associated sizes and weights remain unchanged.
Import rules updated to match new Beta dates
The import maturity regulation (7 CFR 944.31) is amended to match the new Beta variety dates so imported Beta avocados must meet the same A, B, C, and D dates (7-25, 8-01, 8-15, 8-22). This change ensures importers meet the same maturity timing as domestic South Florida fruit.
Timely harvest reduces fruit loss and limb breakage
The rule notes that moving the Beta maturity dates up two weeks should reduce limb breakage and fruit loss by enabling timely harvesting and earlier removal of larger, heavier fruit. That should lower loss-related costs for growers and handlers during the Beta season.
