The USDA is looking for awesome people to join the new Forestry Research Advisory Council, which will help guide forest research and planning across the country. If you work with forests in government, industry, schools, or volunteer groups, this is your chance to make a difference for three years. Apply to Join the FRAC
You can be nominated or self-nominate to serve on the new Forestry Research Advisory Council (FRAC). The Secretary of Agriculture will appoint up to 20 members to three-year terms who will advise on national and regional forestry research and planning.
Membership Category Limits and Balance
FRAC will have no more than 20 members and may include up to five representatives in each of four categories: (1) Federal and State agencies; (2) forest industry; (3) academic institutions; and (4) volunteer organizations. The council aims for geographic and category balance and will meet at least annually.
Unpaid Service; Travel May Be Reimbursed
FRAC members will serve without compensation, but they may be allowed travel expenses and per diem for council meetings if approved by the Designated Federal Official. Members serve three-year terms and meetings occur at least annually.
How to Be Nominated and Vetting
To be considered you must submit a cover letter identifying the membership category, a resume showing group experience in forest research, and complete Form AD-755; all nominations will be vetted by USDA. Nominations must be submitted via email or postmarked by April 23, 2026.
