Farmers Face Small Survey Time Burden
If you are a farmer or operator of a smaller, custom or State‑inspected slaughter plant, NASS estimates about 600 operations will be contacted and that each response averages 15 minutes. The agency estimates a total annual respondent burden of 1,050 hours, notes weekly data from about 1,100 Federally Inspected plants and monthly data from about 1,060 State Inspected plants, and is proposing revisions that could change questionnaire length, sampling, or the number surveyed; comments are due by May 29, 2026.
Survey Data Protected by Law
If you provide information to the Livestock Slaughter Survey, individually identifiable data are protected under 7 U.S.C. 2276 and the Confidential Information Protection and Statistical Efficiency Act (CIPSEA) of 2018 (Public Law 115-435). NASS says it will afford strict confidentiality to non-aggregated respondent data and follow CIPSEA rules.
