Perkins Loans: No New Awards

The authority to award new Federal Perkins Loans to students has expired. Students can no longer receive new Perkins Loans under this program (notice published April 8, 2026).

2026-27 Campus-Based Program Deadlines

The Department set firm submission deadlines for Campus-Based program items: Campus-Based Reallocation Form due September 1, 2026; 2027-28 FISAP and several reports due October 1, 2026; new Work Colleges applications due October 30, 2026; FISAP edits and Perkins cash-on-hand update due December 15, 2026; waiver request for underuse penalty due February 1, 2027; returning Work Colleges applications due March 1, 2027; and FWS community service waiver due April 19, 2027. Institutions must meet these dates to ensure consideration for funding or waivers.

Institutions Must Report Perkins Activity

Institutions that still service Perkins Loans must report all Perkins Loan activity on their FISAP (Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate). Continuing servicers or servicers under contract must include Perkins activity in their 2025-26 reporting.

Submission, Mailing, and Proof Rules

Electronic submissions must be completed and accepted by 11:59:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the applicable deadline date. Paper documents sent by U.S. Postal Service must be postmarked (or have a mail receipt stamped) by the deadline; acceptable proof includes dated USPS postmark or dated courier receipt. Hand-delivery of paper documents is not accepted. The Secretary may consider exceptions for major disasters or unusual circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
