Nine Approved Catch Monitors
Starting May 1, 2026, nine approved companies will provide at-sea (ASM) and/or electronic (EM) catch monitoring for the Northeast Multispecies Fishery through April 30, 2027. Fishing sectors must contract with these approved providers to meet the industry-funded monitoring requirement; five firms offer both ASM and EM services and four firms provide EM only.
Provider Approval & Ongoing Requirements
NMFS requires approved ASM and EM companies to meet performance standards and submit annual updates (including an Emergency Action Plan, evidence of adequate insurance, and any staffing or operations changes) to keep approval. NMFS may notify and withdraw approval in writing if a provider fails to meet standards; companies whose insurance expires before April 30, 2027, must submit updated insurance to maintain approval.
