DNV’s Continued Hospital Deeming Authority
DNV Healthcare USA applied for continued recognition so hospitals accredited by DNV could be deemed to meet Medicare Conditions of Participation and thereby participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. CMS determined the application complete on February 28, 2026; DNV’s current approval term expires September 26, 2026; public comments are due by May 11, 2026, and CMS must publish approval or denial within 210 days of the complete application.
Approval Term Can Be Up To Six Years
Under CMS regulations (42 CFR 488.5(e)(2)(i)), CMS may approve or reapprove an accrediting organization for a period not to exceed 6 years. If CMS grants continued approval to DNV, that approval period could be up to 6 years, providing multi-year stability for hospitals using DNV’s accreditation.
