Foreign-built 12‑Passenger Vessel Review

The Maritime Administration is deciding whether the foreign-built small passenger vessel S/V THE SALTY LADY can be used in U.S. coastwise trade if it carries no more than 12 passengers for hire. If MARAD determines the vessel's use would not adversely affect U.S. vessel builders or coastwise trade businesses, the U.S. Coast Guard may issue a coastwise trade endorsement. MARAD is accepting comments on this decision through May 14, 2026.

U.S. Builders Can Submit Objections

U.S. vessel builders and coastwise trade businesses that employ U.S.-built vessels may submit comments and supporting documentation to demonstrate an undue adverse effect from allowing S/V THE SALTY LADY into coastwise trade. Comments must be submitted to docket MARAD-2026-0595 and will be accepted until May 14, 2026.
