SSA may share records with Treasury Do Not Pay

SSA added a routine use permitting disclosure to the U.S. Department of the Treasury for Do Not Pay reviews to identify, prevent, or recoup improper payments when disclosure meets requirements in 20 CFR 401.150(c). The new routine uses take effect May 15, 2026.

Your eDIB file will track messaging choices

If you file a Social Security disability claim, SSA will now record and track whether you opt in or opt out of electronic messaging in your eDIB claim file. This change is effective upon publication (April 15, 2026) and the public may comment until May 15, 2026.

Provider records now include tax ID and license data

SSA expanded the eDIB file to include medical examiner and provider information such as tax identification number (which may include SSN), medical license number, and license expiration date, and an indicator if a provider is on the HHS Office of Inspector General's excluded list. These changes are part of the updated system published April 15, 2026.

SSN files may be stored in cloud and shared with contractors

SSA clarified that eDIB electronic records may be maintained in cloud-based environments and also expanded routine uses to permit disclosures to contractors and cooperative agreement awardees who assist SSA. The system notice is applicable upon publication (April 15, 2026) and some routine uses become effective May 15, 2026.
