EPA OKs Arizona Plan to Curb PM2.5 Drift

You will benefit from cleaner air because the EPA approved Arizona's plan to prevent state pollution from harming air quality in other states for the 2012 PM2.5 standard. The approval is final and takes effect May 18, 2026, and the EPA says this helps protect downwind air without adding new costs for businesses or residents.

No New Federal Costs for Arizona Small Businesses

If you run a small business or are self-employed in Arizona, the EPA certified this approval will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities and says it does not add requirements beyond state law. The EPA reached this conclusion while finalizing the approval, effective May 18, 2026.

Exclusion for Tribal Jurisdiction Areas

This EPA approval does not apply on any Indian reservation land or in any area where the EPA or an Indian Tribe has demonstrated tribal jurisdiction. In those tribal areas the rule will not impose substantial direct costs on Tribal governments or preempt Tribal law, and the approval is final May 18, 2026.
