Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

No Extra Billing for At-Home Hospital Care

If you are a Medicare beneficiary receiving Acute Hospital Care at Home, hospitals are not permitted to bill Medicare or you for any costs outside of a typical inpatient admission. The notice also states there is no payment change for these services.

Minimum Two Daily In-Person Visits

Acute Hospital Care at Home patients must receive a minimum of two in-person visits daily by registered nurses or mobile integrated health paramedics, and at least daily rounding by a physician and medical team. This applies to beneficiaries who require acute inpatient admission and ongoing monitoring.

Program Ends Unless Congress Acts

The notice states that, without further Congressional action, the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver submission process will end September 30, 2030. That date sets the current outer limit for the program's submission process.

Eligibility Limited by Admission Source

Hospitals may only treat patients under this waiver if the patient is admitted from the Emergency Department or transferred from inpatient hospital beds. That admission-source rule limits who can be enrolled in Acute Hospital Care at Home.
