CLIA labs face paperwork extension

CMS is proposing an extension and revision to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) information collection that requires clinical laboratories to keep records and update policies under new or amended sections. This collection (Form CMS-R-26, OMB 0938-0612) lists 49,626 respondents, 88,259,802 total annual responses, and 14,514,802 total annual hours; frequency is monthly or occasionally. Comments are due by June 22, 2026; the revisions reflect changes from the December 28, 2023 final rule (88 FR 89976) and add sections such as 493.1278 and 493.1359-1491.

Accreditors must meet CLIA paperwork rules

CMS proposes to extend the information collection for granting and withdrawal of "deeming" authority and CLIA exemptions (Form CMS-R-185, OMB 0938-0686) for private nonprofit accreditation organizations and State licensure programs. The collection lists 9 respondents, 9 total annual responses, and 5,359 total annual hours; frequency is occasionally. Comments are due by June 22, 2026, and the extension reflects requirements tied to the December 28, 2023 final rule (88 FR 89976).
