Published Date: 4/24/2026

Rule

Summary

Starting May 26, 2026, airlines must create and share a simple, one-page summary of passenger rights about delays, cancellations, baggage, and boarding. This info will be easy to find on airline websites within 90 days after official approval, helping travelers know what to expect and what they’re entitled to. This rule affects all covered airlines and aims to make flying less confusing and more fair—no extra cost to passengers, just clearer info!

Airlines Must Submit One-Page Rights Sheet

Each covered air carrier must submit to the U.S. Department of Transportation a one-page Passenger Rights Summary describing passenger rights for delays, diversions, cancellations, mishandled baggage, voluntary seat relinquishment (overbooking), and involuntary denial of boarding. The rule is effective May 26, 2026, and carriers must post the summary in a prominent location on their websites within 90 days after they submit it to the Department.

Passengers Get Clear One-Page Rights Info

You will be able to find a simple, one-page summary of your passenger rights about delays, cancellations, baggage, and boarding on airline websites. Carriers must post the summary in a prominent website location within 90 days after submitting it to DOT; the rule is effective May 26, 2026, and the Department says this creates no extra cost to passengers.

Submission/Postponed Until OMB Approval

Carriers are not required to submit or post the Passenger Rights Summary until the Department obtains OMB approval under the Paperwork Reduction Act and publishes a notice announcing that approval; the 90-day website posting clock begins only after a carrier submits its summary to DOT.
