New England Hydropower Company, LLC has asked to end its preliminary permit for the Manville Dam project. The permit was issued on May 23, 2025, would have expired May 1, 2029, and will remain in effect only until the close of business on May 29, 2026, after which no work under that permit will start.

Site Opens for New Applicants

After the permit surrender is effective (close of business May 29, 2026), new companies may apply to develop the Manville Dam hydroelectric site on the Blackstone River in Cumberland, Rhode Island. You cannot submit a new application for the site until the permit surrender is effective.
