If you complete ATF firearms or explosives forms (regulated under 27 CFR parts 478, 479, and 555), you must select your biological sex as either male or female where the form asks for “sex.” The rule states that “sex” does not include gender identity, ATF expects no additional fees or costs, and the public may comment until August 4, 2026.
