Summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is asking to keep collecting info for businesses that want to set up Centralized Examination Stations (CES) where shipments get checked. If you’re involved in importing goods, this affects you! They’re giving everyone until June 8, 2026, to share thoughts—no new fees or big changes, just a paperwork extension to keep things running smoothly.

Paperwork requirement to run CES

If your business wants to operate a Centralized Examination Station (CES) where imported goods are examined, CBP is extending the existing application information collection (extension without change). CBP estimates 50 respondents, with each application taking about 2 hours and a total annual burden of about 100 hours; public comments are due June 8, 2026.

Names required for background checks

The CES application requires you to provide the names of all corporate officers and all employees who will come in contact with uncleared cargo so CBP can perform background investigations. The application is used to assess facility suitability, fee fairness, and knowledge of cargo handling and CBP procedures (authorized by 19 CFR 118.11 and 19 U.S.C. 1499).
