Travel Costs Reimbursed for Appointees

If you are appointed to the U.S. section of the Advisory Panel, NMFS will reimburse necessary travel expenses in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations and sections 5701, 5702, 5704–5708, and 5731 of Title 5 (16 U.S.C. 7008).

Apply to U.S. Pacific Whiting Advisory Panel

You can be nominated to serve on the U.S. Advisory Panel for the Pacific Whiting Treaty. Nominations must be received by June 10, 2026; appointed members serve 4-year terms and may be reappointed, and NMFS expects at least one meeting may be held each year.

Appointees Not Federal Employees (Limited Coverage)

While serving on the Advisory Panel, you will not be considered a Federal employee except for injury compensation or tort claims liability under chapter 81 of title 5 and chapter 171 of title 28 (16 U.S.C. 7008).

Passport Required; Meetings May Be Canada-Based

AP members will need a valid U.S. passport because meetings may be held in the United States or Canada and may be virtual or in person. This requirement may mean you must obtain or renew a passport before serving.
