Online option for two loan types
You can use the FSA Online Loan Application (OLA) to apply for Farm Ownership Loans and Operating Loans. OLA is not available for Youth Loans, Emergency Loans, or the Indian Tribal Land Acquisition Loan Program.
Who can apply online expanded over time
OLA launched in December 2023 for individual operators, was expanded in August 2024 to accept informal entities (including married couples), and was further expanded in April 2026 to accept legal entity applicants. These changes let more types of applicants submit loan requests online.
Paperwork greatly reduced for FSA-2001
The paper FSA-2001 'Request for Direct Loan Assistance' was simplified from 29 pages to 13 pages (simplified paper application released March 2023). The online form is designed to be more intuitive and is projected to reduce burden hours compared with the paper form.
Estimated applicant time burden and volumes
FSA estimates 668 annual respondents, 775 total annual responses, an average time per response of 1.49 hours, and a total annual burden of 1,152 hours for the OLA information collection.
Some loan programs remain ineligible online
The OLA is explicitly not available for Youth Loans, Emergency Loans, and the Indian Tribal Land Acquisition Loan Program, so applicants for those programs must use other application channels.
