Annual cuts to HUD admin funds
This bill would make HUD’s Inspector General check public housing agencies each year for tenant rule violations. By September 30, the IG would publish the total subsidies for units with noncompliant tenants. On October 15, HUD’s Management and Administration funds would be cut by that amount. If HUD’s funding bill passes after October 15, the cut would happen on that enactment date. The target is the community service and self-sufficiency rules for public housing tenants. If enacted, this could reduce HUD support for housing agencies and slow help for low-income renters.
