More SNAP exemptions for caregivers
If enacted, some SNAP work rules would be eased. Parents or others caring for a dependent would get a 6-month period, consecutive or not, before work rules start. The child-care exemption would cover kids under age 6. People over 60 would count as exempt. If you care for a dependent and are married to and live with someone who meets SNAP work rules, you would also be exempt. Agencies would use a 3-month or 6-month window, as applicable.
New work rules for housing aid
If enacted, SNAP-style work rules would also apply to public housing residents and families using tenant-based rental vouchers. You would need to meet the same work or reporting rules unless you qualify for an exemption under SNAP rules. Examples include caring for a child under 6 or being over 60. Non-compliance could affect your housing assistance.
