Student aid at risk if college backs DEI
If enacted, colleges would need to certify they do not now and will not run diversity, equity, and inclusion programs or offices as defined in the bill. If a college fails to certify or is found noncompliant, it could lose all federal funds and access to federal student loan programs. Students at that school could lose federal grants and federal loans. The Secretary would issue rules and could ask for records to check a college’s certification. A college could appeal a termination to an administrative law judge within 30 days; a hearing must be held within 45 days, and the judge can extend that time. The bill defines DEI as classifying people by race, color, sex, national origin, gender identity, or sexual orientation, and giving different or preferred treatment based on those traits.
