Pay Our Coast Guard Parity Act of 2025
Sponsored By: Representative Scholten
In Committee
Summary
Continuity of pay and benefits for Coast Guard personnel during a Coast Guard-specific funding lapse is established and Coast Guard compensation is aligned with that of other armed forces. This creates a legal pathway to keep people paid and covered when Coast Guard appropriations alone are delayed.

Coast Guard pay during funding gaps
If enacted, this would keep Coast Guard pay and key benefits going during a Coast Guard-specific funding gap. Pay and allowances would continue for active-duty members and reservists on active service or in training. Qualified Coast Guard civilians and some contract workers would also be paid, as designated by the Commandant. If a member dies on active duty, dependents could get the death gratuity, funeral travel reimbursements, and a temporary basic housing allowance. Money would be provided at normal rates using such sums as necessary, then charged to the Coast Guard’s final funding once passed. Payments could be made without waiting for the usual budget apportionment timing. This would apply only when the Coast Guard lacks funding but the Defense Department is funded. Support would end when Congress acts on funding for the year, when Defense funding stops, or two weeks after the gap starts, whichever comes first.
