- Veterans: Veterans with service-connected disabilities would get a clearer route to VRE help through a dedicated phone line and regional contact listings. Extension requests for vocational rehabilitation would have to be approved or denied within 30 days.
- VA staff and regional offices: Regional offices would have to post a contact name, phone number, and email on their websites and hold monthly Q&A sessions with school certifying officials. VRE counselors would be required to give in-person briefings at local schools and may use virtual briefings when a school is more than 150 miles away.
- Oversight and transparency: The VA would have to send an annual report to the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees showing how many veterans requested VRE extensions and how many were approved or rejected.

Faster answers on VA rehab extensions
If enacted, veterans who ask to extend their Chapter 31 rehab time would get an answer within 30 days. The VA would have to approve or deny the request within that window. The VA would also send Congress a report one year after enactment and every year after, listing requests, approvals, and denials.
More VA outreach on vocational rehab
If enacted, the VA would set up a dedicated phone line for Chapter 31 questions in its Education Call Center. Every VA regional office would post a contact name, phone, and email on its website. VA counselors would hold monthly Q&A sessions with school certifying officials. Counselors would brief veterans at each school in their area; briefings could be virtual if the school is more than 150 miles from the regional office.
