Saving Our Veterans Lives Act of 2025

• Veterans and certain former service members could request a covered item or a voucher and receive information and an educational video on secure firearm storage. Covered items are U.S. made lockboxes that meet ASTM F2456-20 and are not intended for resale.
• The Department of Veterans Affairs would be able to work with outside experts, run a public education campaign that clarifies participation does not affect lawful gun ownership, and target outreach to veterans not enrolled in VA health enrollment. The VA must report annually to the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs and Appropriations committees on distributions, vouchers, outreach, obstacles, and next steps.
• The bill includes explicit privacy and legal limits. It says the VA may not collect personally identifiable information to track firearm ownership, require registration, mandate storage, or keep participant lists.

*Would authorize $5.0 million each fiscal year from 2026 through 2036 to carry out the program, increasing federal outlays for VA’s secure-storage efforts.*
