Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.
Create Space National Guard in seven states
If enacted, this would create a Space National Guard in Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, New York, and Ohio. It would be the reserve of the U.S. Space Force and be federally recognized. The federal government would help pay to organize, arm, and equip it. Staff who run space operations and specific Air National Guard space units in those states would move into the Space National Guard. Units would stay under each state’s Assistant Adjutant General for Air, as they were before. The bill would limit new personnel to those listed and require use of existing Air National Guard space facilities.
Space National Guard leadership and briefings
If enacted, the Director of Space Operations would become the Director of the Space National Guard, hold the rank of Brigadier General, and report to the Director of the Air National Guard. The Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of the National Guard Bureau would have to finish implementation within one year, unless the law says otherwise. The Secretary of the Air Force, the Chief of Space Force, and the Chief of the National Guard Bureau would brief Congress within 90 days and then yearly for five years. The briefings would cover missions, operations, people, and budgets.
