Pilot lets Tribes buy foods for Native seniors
This bill would start a Tribal pilot inside the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Selected Tribal programs could buy foods for their CSFP-eligible seniors. USDA would consult with Tribes and pick those already running CSFP well and able to handle purchasing. Foods would have to be U.S.-grown, keep the package within the CSFP guide rate, and be as healthy or have Tribal significance. The pilot would get $5 million, available until spent, but only if Congress later appropriates it. USDA would report to Congress within one year after funding and each year after.
USDA staff for Tribal contract pilot
The bill would authorize $1.2 million each year for 2026 through 2029 to pay USDA contract officers and program staff. These staff would run the Tribal CSFP contracting pilot, including selecting Tribes and managing contracts. The funds would be earmarked for salaries and benefits only and would require a later appropriation.
