Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Design, metal, and legal status of coins

If enacted, designs would honor the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial and show the year 2026, value, and standard inscriptions. The $5 coin would weigh 8.359g and be at least 90% gold. The $1 coin would weigh 26.73g and be at least 90% silver. The half-dollar would follow standard half-dollar specs. The coins would be legal tender and treated as collectibles by the Treasury. The Secretary would choose the design after consulting expert groups.

Coin prices, surcharges, and discounts

If enacted, the Mint would price each coin at face value plus a surcharge and Mint costs. Surcharges would be $35 for the $5 coin, $10 for the $1 coin, and $5 for the half-dollar. Buyers could get reasonable discounts for bulk purchases and for prepaid orders. A surcharge could not be added in any year if it would push the Mint over its two-program-a-year limit. After the Treasury recovers all costs, surcharges would go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, with audits required.

Firefighter coins only in 2026, limited runs

If enacted, the Mint would sell these coins only in 2026. Coins would come in uncirculated and proof, with one Mint facility making each quality. Runs would be capped at 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollars. Limited time and mintage could make them harder to get but more collectible.
